Delaware Valley Tour

The Delaware River runs for 410 miles from its head to the Atlantic Ocean at Cape May, NJ, and is tidal from the Ocean to Trenton, NJ, the capital of that State. Our tour encompasses that part of the Valley that runs north from Philadelphia, up past Trenton and into the rolling countryside of Bucks County.  For much of its length the River forms the border between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and there are many bridges that allow us to cross from one side to the other so that we get to see the most important sights.  The area is rich in natural beauty with many historic and charming towns built along the river’s banks.

A great way to see Delaware Valley attractions.

What You'll See

Of course, there are choices you can make about what you want to see.  Our advice is to start by visiting the Trenton Barracks, where you’ll get local guides in colonial dress to tour you around this historic site, center of the Battle of Trenton the day after Christmas in 1776.  We will visit Washington Crossing State Parks, both in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where  General Washington stealthily crossed his army on Christmas night, and then on up to the towns of New Hope and Lambertville, where there is plenty of shopping, as well as antique browsing, coffee shops and restaurants.  Depending on the weather, you can also head further up the river and go tubing, canoeing or rafting on the River, a fun and relaxing way to see the local countryside.  Other places to visit include the New Jersey State Capitol, Bowman’s Hill Tower, Frenchtown and Peddler’s Village.
